Hannah's Trophy

Trophy smallmouth caught on the Delaware river by my oldest daughter, Hannah on her first outing! She caught this 18-inch smallie using a Scooby-Doo rod. Her first trophy hit a green pumpkin tube.

The Backwoods Angler was founded in 2000 by Blaine Mengel, Jr., and offers professionally guided smallmouth bass fishing trips on the Delaware River, Susquehanna River, Schuylkill River and other select waters in Eastern and Central PA. I am a PA registered guide (Permit # 176), and I am fully insured by Jack Martin & Assoc. Insurance Co., in MD. I am certified in CPR, First Aid and Water Safety. The Backwoods Angler has been profiled in The Morning Call and Reading Eagle newspapers, as well as by A Great Day Outdoors TV, Delaware Valley Outdoors TV and Pennsylvania Outdoor Life, WNEP-TV. I do speaking engagements on Delaware River smallmouth bass fishing. I contribute a weekly fishing report for The Morning Call newspaper and Delaware Valley Outdoors TV/Radio/Internet. In the Jan/Feb '05 issue of Bassin' magazine, I took part in a feature on cold water bass tactics. In-Fishermen printed a feature on guide services in their 2007 Bass Fishing Special Issue, and BWA was featured in that piece, and BWA will be featured in an upcoming Summer Smallmouth piece. I am a freelance writer for The Reading Eagle newspaper and New Jersey Angler magazine. I am fishing editor for The Outdoor Adventurer magazine.

The Backwoods Angler is a family business. We operate 12 months per year and 7 days per week. All trips are run on a custom ODYSSEY JET BOAT. This boat is fully equipped and offers ample space and comfort for clients.
