Delaware River Report--April 15, 2008 The Belvidere gauge reads 6.75 feet. Water continues to recede slowly and water is quite clear for the levels. Temperatures are fluctuating a lot with warmer afternoon sun and cold nights. Smallmouth are still a bit lethargic, but it's April on the Delaware. We have seen small to medium-sized females lately with large egg bellies. Top producing lures are Mizmo tubes, Winco's CW Smallie Delight jigs, suspending jerkbaits and spinnerbaits, in that order. Trips are averaging 20 bass and an occasional walleye or two. Pete and Jeff Antoniewicz and I boated 16 fish Thursday last week on a tough bite day with the largest being a 21-inch brute on a spinnerbait. Friday, Jerry Wurtzer, his buddy (sorry, Jerry, I'm bad at remembering names!)and I landed 17 smallies on a variety of lures. Sunday, Doug Wood did one of several trips annually on the Delaware. We hammered it out for 22 smallies, with most eating tubes. A solid 20-inch spinnerbait fish was the best of the day. And Monday, Lester Shoener and buddy, Barrett, boated 21 smallies, with most on Mizmos and suspending jerkbaits. With predicted warm weather and good levels, this week will only get better. Schuylkill River-November 26, 2007 The river at Pottstown reads 2.65 feet. Expect rises over the next two days. When winter fishing on this flow, target deeper eddies and outer bends in the river where current speed is slow. Jig and pig combos, Don's hair jigs, Mizmos and suspending jerkbaits are good choices. Also, any wintering hole below a warming influence like a creek or discharge will produce better.

21, 2008 The Harrisburg gauge reads around 8 feet and with the current rainfall, expect some rises this weekend. High water haunts are the rule with elevated flows. Creek mouths, eddies below islands and shoreline breaks are all good for starters. When water recedes, smallmouth will relax from these positions and use ledges and underwater cover off the main structure. Chris Gorsuch caught bass from almost all the spots he visited on a trip last week. Visibility was 12 to 18 inches with water temps 38 to 39F just a few miles north of H-burg. Bass were hungry and active. Eddy areas with some current were the focus. Most of the bass were 14 to 16" with a few nice 17's and an 18.5" smallie the best of the trip. Tubes worked on or very close to that soft current seam on the edge of the eddy. For the next several weeks, fishing should continue to improve. NOTICE--To all anglers fishing the Susky, please promote Catch and Release on ALL smallmouth. We as anglers need to do our part. Please contact the Susquehanna River Smallmouth Club for more details. Thanks.

One looks up and sees a funeral procession starting across the bridge. He stands up, takes off his cap, and bows his head. The procession crosses the bridge and the man puts on his cap, picks up his rod and reel, and continues fishing. The other guy says, "That was touching. I didn't know you had it in you. "The first guy responds, "Well, I guess it was the thing to do - after all, I was married to her for 40 years." Click here for my Bio.*** "Just wanted to thank Blaine for making the trip out to speak to the group. He gave a great talk. As I told him afterward, the club is made up of mostly accomplished and proficient anglers . I can always tell how effective the speaker is by their reactions to the speech. During Blaine's presentation there was almost no sidebar conversations and many nods in agreement. Blaine definitely knows his stuff. Most of all he has the personality to go along with it. It would be very easy to spend a day in the boat with him."
