GUIDED SMALLMOUTH BASS FISHING TRIPS IN EASTERN AND CENTRAL, PA

DELAWARE RIVER

Susquehanna River--Schuylkill River

Lehigh River

WATERS WE FISH

DELAWARE RIVER--

Beginning as 2 branches in south central and southeastern New York, the east branch and west branch merge near Hancock, NY to become the main stem Delaware River. The Upper Delaware River offers some of the finest brown and rainbow trout opportunities East of the Mississippi River. As the river flows south , the effect of the cold water discharges lessens and the smallie becomes king. The Delaware becomes tidal downstream from Trenton, NJ and here largemouth bass and stripers are plentiful.  The river travels 280 miles from the junction to its entrance into the Delaware Bay.

We focus on the free-flowing Delaware from the lower Delaware Water Gap downstream to below the Easton, PA area, near Riegelsville.  As the river runs out of the Pocono Mountains, it varies from gradual flows of deep water to narrow, fast moving rapids. The river drops 22 feet in elevation within a quarter mile near Belvidere, NJ.

Smallies abound and anglers frequently hook into fish in excess of 4 pounds!  An occasional walleye, striper, trout or catfish will also make it to the boat.  Large muskie also call this area home.  Catches vary throughout the season.  The Delaware River Valley is famous for its beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife.  Your chances are good for seeing deer, turkey, swans, herons, osprey, beaver, otter, and even bald eagles and black bear from time to time.

Come experience the complete outdoor experience this trip has to offer!

The rate for the Delaware River is $290 for 1 or 2 persons (8 hours).

**New for 2008, for all Sunday trips booked after February 10, 2008, the rate is $340 for a 6-7 hr. trip.  The holiday rate will be $400.  Rates are for 1-2 persons and are for the Delaware River.

SCHUYLKILL RIVER--

This river is on a major comeback.  Once known for its dirty water and shorelines and little smallmouth bass, The "skuke" has really come a long way.  We get numbers of fish and trophies here.  The river winds through the ridges, farmlands and several large towns of Schuylkill, Berks, and Montgomery Counties in PA and flows into the Delaware River in Philadelphia.  North of Norristown, the river takes on a totally different impression, holding some of the more scenic and productive waters I've had the privilege to fish.  We fish the middle Schuylkill, from Phoenixville north to downstream of Reading, PA.  Each trip we have run here has produced some top quality smallmouth, and we will occasionally get a largemouth or two as well.  Waters get skinny in the summer, so we will outfit trips here during the spring and fall.  Do not miss this top notch smallmouth fishing experience!

The rate for the Schuylkill is $325 for 1 or 2 persons.

SUSQUEHANNA RIVER--

Known as one of the top smallmouth bass producing rivers in the land, the mighty "Susky" usually lives up its billing .  Being one of the most fertile rivers in the nation, Susquehanna smallies often resemble "footballs", as they're usually stuffed with crawdads or baitfish.    We outfit trips on the North Branch Susquehanna in beautiful north-central PA during the spring.  Days where 50 or more bass are caught and released are likely, and fish may average 2 1/2 pounds.  We also run trips in the fall north of Harrisburg, PA, from Fort Hunter upstream through Liverpool.  Fall brings the cooling down of the river, sending smallmouth into feeding frenzies on many days.

Chris Gorsuch is an associate guide for BWA for the 2008 season, and will guide clients on the Susquehanna.  Chris was born and raised in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains . Twenty-five years ago, he moved to PA and has been chasing smallmouth on area rivers ever since. He has been boating the rivers for decades and has been operating a jet boat for over a dozen years. He currently runs a 2006 - 18’ custom Snyder Jet Boat. It offers plenty of space and is built to withstand the punishment shallow rivers present.

Chris is a part time freelance writer and outdoor photographer. He has been on the contributing staff of PA Angler & Boater Magazine since the 1990’s.  He fully-insured, CPR-First Aid certified and is licensed by the PA Fish and Boat Commission--Permit #483.

The rate for the Susquehanna River is $325 for 1 or 2 persons.

LEHIGH RIVER--

New to BWA this season, Chris will also offer 4-hour kayak fishing floats on the Lehigh River in the Bowmanstown/Palmerton/Walnutport section of the Lehigh.  The Lehigh is full of feisty smallies  and trout are plentiful as well.  Chris will teach clients the ins and outs of kayak fishing and safety.  Boats are provided for these warm weather floats.  Lehigh River kayak floats will begin in the afternoon and run until dusk.

Trips are 4 hours and the rate is $125 for 1 or 2 persons.

EASTERN PA LAKES--

In  the event of unsafe river conditions, we may fish one of Eastern PA's lakes or impoundments.  The Pocono Mountains is home to many fine mountain bass lakes, many of them holding largemouth and smallmouth bass, pickerel and panfish.

COLD WATER DELAWARE RIVER SMALLMOUTH/WALLEYE COMBO TRIPS--

Winter is perhaps the quietest time of year on the Delaware, and smallmouth do not quit eating as many would expect.  Numbers of fish are low, but good size is likely.  Walleye, some up to 9 pounds, abound and are easier to target during the late fall and winter.  And, an occasional muskie will strike the jigs and jerkbaits we throw.  Trips are 5.5  hours, with tackle, boat and instruction included.  December through early March is the time frame for these exciting outings.

The rate for this trip is $210 for 1 or 2 persons.
